The Three-Dimensional Job Search
When most nurse job-seekers are in the market for a new nursing position, their job search process can be somewhat one-dimensional. From my perspective, a three-dimensional job search strategy is generally much more effective. And when it comes to career development, it ' s the same thing. One-dimensionsality breeds one-dimensional results -- why not try something more powerful? The One-Dimensional Job SearchIn a one-dimensional job search process, it kind of looks like this: you get up in the morning, make a cup of coffee, eat breakfast, and open your computer. You then peruse job boards like Indeed and Monster looking for...

Reduction of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in swine manure-fertilized soil via fermentation broth from fruit and vegetable waste
This study provides field-scale evidence of a feasible strategy for controlling farmland ARG pollution, which is of utmost importance for soil health in the context of sustainable agriculture.PMID:35810807 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2022.113835

Characterization of antimicrobial resistance genes and class 1 integrase gene in raw meat and aquatic product, fresh vegetable and fruit, and swine manure in southern China
Publication date: Available online 7 May 2019Source: Food ControlAuthor(s): Lina Xiong, Yunhao Sun, Lei Shi, He YanAbstractVarious antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes, especially a widely diverse assembly of mobile genetic elements such as plasmids, integrons, gene cassettes, or transposons, recently identified environmental pollutants, have been widely recognized as one of the main global health concerns, threatening food safety, and human and animal health. In order to determine the contamination of AMR genes and class 1 integrase gene (intI1) in raw or fresh food and swine manure in southern China, 119 samples of raw o...

Fruit peel crude enzymes for enhancement of biohydrogen production from synthetic swine wastewater by improving biohydrogen-formation processes of dark fermentation
This study aims to enhance biohydrogen production from synthetic swine wastewater by employing crude enzymes obtained from different fruit peels (orange, mandarin, and banana) to improve the biohydrogen-formation processes of dark fermentation. Results indicated that dosing with crude enzymes affected volatile fatty acids (VFAs) and biogas composition insignificantly, while increased biohydrogen yield from 1.62 ± 0.00 (blank) to 1.90 ± 0.08 (orange peel), 2.01 ± 0.00 (mandarin peel), and 1.96 ± 0.01 (banana peel) mol H2/mol glucose, respectively. Banana peel crude enzyme was the most effective additive, with 1 g/L prot...

Do chimpanzees see a face on Mars? A search for face pareidolia in chimpanzees
This study explored behavioral evidence for face pareidolia in chimpanzees using visual search and matching tasks. Faces are processed in a configural manner, and their perception and recognition are hampered by inversion and misalignment of top and bottom parts. We investigated whether the same effect occurs in a visual search for face-like objects. The results showed an effect of misalignment. On the other hand, consistent results were not obtained with the photographs of fruits. When only the top or bottom half of the face-like object was presented, chimpanzees showed better performance for the top-half condition, sugge...

Search hours for food attractant by Anastrepha fraterculus and Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae) adults in guava orchards
This study was to determine the period and search time by attractive food for A. fraterculus and C. capitata adults by using three commercial food attractants: BioAnastrepha™ 5%; Isca Samaritá Tradicional™ 5% and Ceratrap™ 1.5%. The largest catches of A. fraterculus and C. capitata adults in McPhail traps occurred during the day between 6:30 am and 6:30 pm for both species. The BioAnastrepha™ food attractant provided the largest catches compared to Isca Samaritá Tradicional™ and Ceratrap™. In addition, there was a higher prevalence of capturing females than males, for both flies' species. The period of larges...
